Owner's comment
My bond with water and the boat.
I'm from a skipper family. In my childhood I spent all my vacations on board. After high school I was on board for another year and I sailed in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. My calling was inland shipping, but my father didn't give me the chance. So I went to live ashore and looked for a job in the shipping world. My pasion for water has never stopped. I didn't get my own ship, but in 1976 I bought my first pleasure boat, a Grand Banks 36foot. In 1986 a 42 feet. These were yard ships that could not be changed a lot. That is why in 2000 the desire grew to have a new boat built in the Netherlands that would fully meet our needs. In Nijkerk on the Randmeren we found the suitable yard to have a custom-built yacht built. We were very lucky that the site manager contributed 100% to this. Because I travelled on a barge for about 2 years and worked my entire professional life in shipping, I knew very well how to build my boat on a technical level. The collaboration with the yard always went well. I was already retired when the boat was built. I had enough free time to spend a lot of time at the shipyard and to follow the construction of the boat closely. So I know each corner on the boat and I also know what is behind very panel. We also had a caravan, so we could spend many days at the shipyard, not missing a thing and be able to see all the small details. Because I saw a lot, I know my boat very well and that makes it easy for me to maintain the boat myself. For me, that is part of the hobby. The boat was delivered in 2002. The ship meets the A class, so our cruising area is very extensive. We used to sail to England and Denmark, but my wife doesn't like the sea and I could have a new boat built, on the condition that we stay in the inland waterways. That is why we have made many trips in the Netherlands. We have been several times where there is water. Ideally, I travel on open water such as the Eastern and Western Scheldt and the IJsselmeer, the boat was ultimately made for that. We also lived on the boat for 2 years. The ship is extremely suitable for that! It is also great to invite friends and acquaintances, because the owner uses the rear bedroom and the visitors have the space in the front. Nobody is disturbing each other and everyone immediately feels at home!
