Teak on walking decks and in the cockpit
Cast iron keel
The First 456 was one of the better built yachts in the 1980s. The intention of the shipyard was to compete directly with quality yachts such as even the Swan yachts, also designed by German Frers. The goal: A fast and solid built yacht, with many similarities in design and construction.
This First was purchased by her current owner in 2004, with the aim of circum navigation, from which he returned in 2006. Since 2004, the owner has carried out the following work:
- 2006: Installation of new B&G Hydra 2000 & Furuno (profesional 24V) navigation electronics.
- 2004: Replacement of existing rudder, for an epoxy rudder on existing rudder shaft.
- 2004: Keel removed for preventive inspection of threaded ends, after which it is reassembled with flexible expoxy.
- 2004: New propeller shaft penetration laminated, with installation of new propeller shafts and bearings
- 2004: Replacement of all valves and hoses
- 2004: New, oversized standing rigging
- 2004: Heavier mast support below deck
With a lack of time and obligations ashore, the current owner lacks the opportunity to make another voyage. In case the opportunity would be there, his expectation is that the yacht will be ready again with a relatively small investment.
The following items are known to the owner and/or require attention:
- Hull has osmosis, starting at about 40 cm below the waterline.
- Teak deck is worn out: most effective solution is to remove the teak deck and apply anti-slip (coating)
- Winches need service.
- Sailing to be checked by sailmaker.
- At least 1 valve needs replacement, but the owner's advice may be to replace all valves at the same time, together with various hoses (number of hoses already replaced)
- Toilet in foreship to be overhauled
- Cosmetically the hull could be repainted, but this is only cosmetic.
Double aft cabin and owner's cabin in front. Cold foam mattresses (2017)
Six berths over three cabins. 1x Pilot's cabin in saloon
2x 200 Liter of stainless steel.
Shower in wet cell foreship (w/k) and cockpit shower (cold water)
Force 10, cardanic cooking comfort at 220 Volt (approx. 4 years old)
Large top-loader fridge, water-cooled
Pretty traditional and atmospheric interior. Two spacious aft cabins, seaworthy L-shaped kitchen, large navigation table, spacious round seat and owner's cabin in the front. In the bow is a large storage room, to store sails, among other things. The interior is in reasonable to good condition.
- Led night-lighting on floorboards.
- Cold foam mattresses in three cabins, from 2017.
MaxProp 2-blade 20 inch
1x 200 Liter for main engine on plane and 2x 100 Liter for generator in aft ship
1400 rpm. 8 ltr/u per motor
4 x 225 amp service battery (2017). Space for two additional service batteries. 1x 90amp starter battery
Mastervolt 75 amp, 24 Volt battery charger. Also 12 Volt battery charger.
Partial overhaul in 2004 by dealer
Mastervolt 1500 Watt inverter
The engine has been serviced periodically by the owner, who has had a mechanic check the engine when he returns from his trip. Although the engine will have the necessary hours there, it still functions well. Some traces of sweat are visible on the engine.
- Extra racor diesel filter, with water separator.
Compass needs revision

Icom antenna tuner for SSB
Marine antenna on mast and back-up marine antenna on stern
- Virtually all navigation electronics reinstalled in 2006.
- The yacht has a VHF with antenna on main mast and a second VHF with antenna on stern .
Also Spinnakerboom and Jockey Pole
- Replaced in 2004 for new, oversized staging.
- Mechanical backstay tensioner.
- The condition of the Genoa is in better condition than the mainsail, as this genoa has been used less .
- There is a cutterfarm with leuvers, on removable cutterstay. This sail is in more than good condition and has been used together for about five days.
- Diverse traps have been replaced in recent years.
- The yacht has four electric self tailing winches and 2 manual self tailing winches. Two electric winches do not work at the moment, the cause is probably in the relay. Advice seller to service all winches.
Spare bow anchor with line and also stern cancer
Quick electric anchor winch, about 4 years old
- The yacht has teak on the running decks and in the cockpit in worn condition.
Additional information
The First 456 is a good and solid built series, with nice lines. The design of German Frers and the powerful rigging also make it a very good and fast sailing yacht. The current owner has made a great voyage and the yacht is therefore offered complete, with various technical innovations. Because of his experience and commitment, the owner is well acquainted with the yacht and the expectation is, with a relatively small investment, that the yacht will be ready again as a departure ship or liveaboard. In addition to a technical check-up with some (preventative) innovations, some attention is particularly needed for cosmetics. Nevertheless, a lot of ship for the money.
